China's MII Sanctions Four IPTV Equipment Providers' AVS Products
November 09, 2007
In the tests conducted in Dalian in October 2007, four Chineses IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) system equipment providers - UTStarcom, ZTE, Huawei, and Alcatel Shanghai Bell - passed the product verification by China's MII (The Ministry of Information Industry), according to Chinese-language Sina News. The absence of international companies such as Siemens and Microsoft in the tests was noted, though.

The Dalian tests were targeted at the application of products using China's homegrown AVS (Audio Video Standard) technology and were carried out on China Netcom's AVS-IPTV system, which has been in operation for over six months. China Netcom is expected to step up its pace in deploying the AVS-IPTV system, in order to avoid patent fees on foreign standards.
